• Your child will be bringing home a reading folder that should come back daily. Please check the folder throughout the week for different activities you can use to practice with your child.

You may see word cards. These cards are produced based on the current concept being taught. Your child should practice tapping each sound, then blending them together. These are also words they can practice spelling.

There may also be Red Word cards in your child’s folder. Red Words are irregular words that do not follow a particular pattern. Irregular words make up a large percentage of words that students encounter in their reading and writing, making it essential to include them in daily practice to enhance automatic word recall.

You may also see a decodable reader. Decodable readers provide accessible content for students to apply what they are learning during phonics instruction.
