Student Assistance Counselor Services
Student Assistance Counselor Program:
A Student Assistance Counselor (SAC) supports students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being by addressing issues related to substance use, mental health, and overall wellness. The SAC provides individual and group counseling, early intervention, and prevention education to help students make healthy, informed decisions. They collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and community resources to identify concerns and connect students with appropriate support services. Additionally, the SAC plays a key role in crisis response, advocacy, and promoting a safe, supportive school environment.
How the SAC Supports Students:
- Depression or persistent sadness
- Anxiety, stress, or feeling overwhelmed
- Anger or difficulty managing emotions
- Grief and loss
- Family transitions, including divorce or separation
- Bullying or harassment
- Friendship or social challenges
- Peer pressure or risky decision-making
- Substance use concerns (alcohol, vaping, or other drugs)
- Curiosity about or exposure to substance use
- Eating disorders or concerns about body image
- Self-esteem or confidence concerns
- Self-harm behaviors
- Suicidal thoughts or concerns for safety
- Experiences of abuse or neglect
- Crisis situations or significant life stressors
- Exploration of sexual orientation or gender identity
- Social adjustment or school-related concerns
- And other personal or emotional challenges

How to Access the SAC
- Students may request to meet
- Students may refer a friend (confidentially)
- Referrals may come from any school staff member
- Parents/guardians may contact the SAC directly
