Masters of Social Work (MSW) Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Certified Grief Counseling Specialist

Mrs. Smyth

Welcome to  Allenwood School! I am looking forward to working with you and your child during their time as an Allenwood Dragon!  I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker working in the field of mental health for over 20 years.  My commitment to the Wall Public School community began in 2011, providing counseling services and support to both elementary and high school aged students.   I have extensive mental health training and often use Sandplay Therapy, mindfulness skills, cognitive behavioral tools, and neural and somatic based strategies in the school setting to support students' mental health and wellbeing.   In addition, I hold a certificate in Grief Counseling and Solfeggio Sound Healing.  I am committed to helping your child gain success not only in school, but in settings and experiences that transcend school.

My Services

School Family Liaison Counselors (SFLC) take on many different roles within a school. My duties include small group and individual counseling, classroom guidance lessons, as well as consultation with parents, teachers, and administrators. While counselors do not discipline students, we support the implementation of positive behavior strategies.  Additionally, we work with other staff members to plan and implement school-wide activities that promote a sense of community at Allenwood.  My goal is for each student to develop social, emotional, and academic skills needed for success and I strive to create a safe and positive environment in which each child can accomplish this.

When to Engage Me

SFLCs work with students for a variety of reasons, including academic concerns, school anxiety, personal struggles, behavioral concerns, and peer issues. I can also assist our families in times of hardship, as I have access to many community resources. As your SFLC, I am dedicated to helping in any capacity necessary to ensure your child successfully navigates the experiences life presents.   There is a full-time SFLC in each of Wall School District's buildings to assist families.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me whenever you feel I might be of assistance, at 732-556-2130.  You may visit the school website and locate valuable resources under the Student Wellness tab.  I look forward to building a relationship with both you and your child.
