    This course examines the major turning points in American history, including the Progressive movement of the early 1900s, World War I, the 1920s, the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, the Watergate Scandal, and U.S. history over the last 40 years. The course focuses on the geographical, intellectual, political, economic and cultural development of the American people, and places U.S. events in the context of world politics.

  • 4A Modern World History

    The POR Modern World History curriculum traces the emergence of modern nations and civilization in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Students investigate the evolution of modern Germany, Italy and Russia in the West, and the emerging nations of Asia. They also study the impact of 19th century colonialism in Africa and Asia, those problems which led to the Great War of 1914 and its effect on the world. It traces the development and impact of fascism on the world leading up to World War II. Finally, the students explore the world since 1945 with the emergence of the Cold War, Communist China, modern Japan, the problems of the Third-World nations, and the turbulent world of the Middle East.

  • 1B Integrated Social Studies 

    Integrated Social Studies is designed to give students an understanding of the world around them through a social studies lens. The intent of this course is to provide each student an opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills related to   social studies and life skills presented throughout their high school career. From this conceptual base, students will be encouraged to foster critical thinking skills, to apply knowledge and to identify the real-life significance of Social Studies.

    The POR US History I course examines the major turning points in American history, beginning with the events leading up to the American Revolution, the origins of our constitution, reform movements, Manifest Destiny, the Civil War and Reconstruction, and the changing nature of business and government. The course focuses on the geographical, intellectual, political, economic and cultural development of the American people, and places U.S. events in the context of world politics.
