Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Kristin Ferris & Ms. Lisa Gebhardt

Welcome to 5th grade!  Room 2 is lucky enough to have two teachers this year.  Ms. Gebhardt, who will be leading the Math, Science and SS classes, has taught a variety of grades throughout her time at Allenwood and is excited about being part of the fifth grade team this year.  Mrs. Ferris, who will be leading the ELA classes in reading and writing, is excited to have made the move from Wall High School to Allenwood.

This year will be filled with fun and challenging tasks to help us reach our fifth grade goals.  We are going to work, play, and have fun learning the many skills that will be required to graduate in June. Through daily interaction and collaboration, we will work together towards having a fantastic and successful school year!

Although we have high expectations for your children, we are committed to assisting them achieve their goals.  These goals include developing useful reading strategies, improving vocabulary and practicing fundamental skills that will be utilized throughout the remainder of your child's enrollment in school.

The format of our classes will be highly structured, while at times providing students with the flexibility to choose; this is because our primary goal is to keep students engaged and interested in learning new material in all subject areas. In addition to daily in-class assignments, we will be expecting your child to complete homework assignments starting mid-September. The assigned homework is intended to be challenging yet doable, not impossible nor impractical. Students will be responsible for recording these activities in their planners, but you can access your child's google classroom as well for accurate information on daily lessons.

Questions from students are encouraged, as it is important that all students thoroughly understand classroom expectations and procedures for the start and end of every class.

One of the most important ways to have a successful year is to keep the lines of communication open.  Positive and productive communication is paramount to your child’s success, and you can email us at any time.  We check our email daily, and will respond to your questions and concerns quickly. You are essentially a part of your child's academic success, and if you notice your child struggling, please encourage them to ask questions.

Thank you

Mrs. Ferris & Ms. Gebhardt
